Viva El Cinco de Mayo!
So it turns out that Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican analogue of the Fourth of July - that's Dieciséis de Septiembre. Evidently it's mostly ignored in Mexico, and celebrated mainly by Mexican-Americans in the US. Read more here:
